EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health, together with the Epilepsy Foundation Central and South Texas, will host a free community health education seminar that will focus on epilepsy and supporting adults living with the condition. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on August 15, 2026, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance located at 118 Paseo Del Prado. The event will be free and open to the public; however, registration is encouraged.

The one-day conference entitled “A Road Map to Care: A Journey with Epilepsy” will offer adult individuals living with epilepsy, their families, and caregivers valuable tools, knowledge, and support for navigating life with this condition. Medical professionals will give presentations covering the recognition of different types of seizures, responding safely during a seizure, treatment options, medication management, lifestyle considerations, and strategies for supporting adults with epilepsy at home, at work, and in the community.

“Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, yet it remains widely misunderstood. This conference represents an important opportunity to bring together patients, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and provide access to the latest advances in epilepsy care,” said Dr. Leonel Estofan, DHR Health epileptologist and medical director of the epilepsy center, who is also the main organizer for the event. “Through education and collaboration, we can empower individuals living with epilepsy to lead safer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives while strengthening the support network throughout the Rio Grande Valley,” said Dr. Estofan added.
