DHR Health Welcomes Double Board-Certified Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Gabriel Gonzalez

EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health, one of the largest physician-owned hospital systems in the United States, and the largest healthcare provider in the Rio Grande Valley, is delighted to welcome Dr. Gabriel Gonzalez to its esteemed group of physicians. Gonzalez is double board-certified in general surgery and vascular surgery and will specialize in peripheral arterial disease, limb salvage, carotid artery disease, aneurysmal disease, dialysis access, venous disorders, and vascular trauma.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Gonzalez to our health system,” said Marissa Castaneda, senior executive vice president of DHR Health. “His arrival marks a significant expansion of our vascular care capabilities as we are committed to ensuring our patients have access to the latest advanced surgical treatments in our community.”

A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Gonzalez earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and completed a general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He then completed a specialized fellowship in vascular surgery at the same institution.

In addition to his dual board certifications, Gonzalez holds the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) credential, validating his expertise in interpreting non-invasive vascular studies. Most recently, he worked as a vascular surgeon at John Peter Smith Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center in Fort Worth, Texas. 

“I am honored to come back to my roots to join DHR Health. I look forward to providing comprehensive vascular care to patients,” said Gonzalez. “My goal is to provide personalized treatment plans that improve quality of life and long-term vascular health.”

 Gonzalez is now accepting patients and referrals. His office is at the DHR Health Vascular Institute located at 5423 S. McColl Road in Edinburg.
