The beginning of this story lies with a doctor, Federico Pérez and his wife, Karent, ending up in the second largest city in the United States: New York. Dr. Pérez graduated in 1989 with a degree of doctor in dentistry from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santiago, Dominican Republic, but, in 1990, after moving to The Big Apple, learned that he was not able to provide dentistry services without going through three more years of medical school.

“This took a little bit of adjusting for me,” Dr. Pérez told Mega Doctor News.  “I started attending New York University-College of Dentistry in 1993 and graduated in November of 1996,” he said.

During his college career, he worked as an assistant for a local dentist. Immediately following school, he left his old job for a new one and opened his own practice in Manhattan, also managing a second practice in Queens, New York. He continued operating his two practices, Acuaro Dental, until he moved to the Valley four years ago.

Dr. Pérez and his wife were looking for a place to operate their dental practice. It was important for both of them to find a great place to grow a family and to grow their health care service in an area that was friendly to business. Since New York was no longer the place, other areas were considered, such as Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Pérez has been in business for the last 17 years, and is a professional who is dedicated to his practice and his patient’s wellbeing. During this time, he has practiced orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry, and dental surgery, with dental services ranging from simple dental check-ups to cleaning, full mouth x-rays, bonding, deep cleaning, gingivectomy, fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures, crown restoration, and implants. His Emergency Dental Care includes toothache relief, swollen jaw relief, repair of lost or loose fillings, sore gum relief, root canal therapy, and wisdom tooth extractions. Additional dental services include night guard, mouth guard, stop snoring mouthpiece, and sleep apnea mouthpiece.

Dr. Pérez was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic. His mother worked in a bank for 40 years and his dad was a veterinarian and in the cattle business. He said that his parents instilled in him the value of honesty and hard work.

“One of the qualities I admire the most is that he loves his profession. He is always smiling and is a hard worker,” Karent Pérez told Mega Doctor News. Karent also pointed out that Dr. Pérez does not have a “bad bone” in his body. “Simply put, he is a good person and very positive,” she said.

Dr. Pérez has been married to Karent for 22 years, and they have been together for 25. They met when they were very young, and have two children, Melina, 17 and Jovan, 11. The youngest one has announced that he wants to be a surgeon. “Melina is more into the cultural and artistic fields,” Karent said.

Interestingly enough, they met when they both ended up at the same family gathering at the beach during spring break in 1986, and started dating about 7 months after. Karent lived in New York in her childhood years, but moved back to the Dominican Republic with her parents. As soon as Dr. Pérez finished school, both moved to New York and married in 1991.

Initially, Karent used to work for a chiropractor, but after having her first baby, she started working with her husband as the office manager.

Even with the idea of Dubai on their minds, all thoughts were thrown out the window when Karent and Federico Perez ended up at an event at the Madison Square Garden that changed their lives when a schoolmate from the Dominican Republican called out their names, it was Dr. Maximiliano Hernandez, a doctor practicing in Pharr, Texas. Dr. Hernandez was a friend of Dr. Pérez when they were in grade school.

“Where are you guys now?” Dr. Pérez asked. The response came as quickly as the question. Dr. Hernandez and Yeka, his wife, told them, “We are in the Valley. You should come and visit us.”

Three months later, Dr. Pérez and Karent visited the Rio Grande Valley and fell in love with the people and the area, saying good-bye to Dubai.

Today, Dr. Pérez and Karent are happily providing dental services in Mission, Texas. They both work very well together, and, with the help of their excellent staff, are making their practice grow.

Mega Doctor News announces that Dr. Federico Pérez was named a Mega Doctor for his love and dedication to the care of his patients. You can contact Dr. Federico Pérez at (956) 584-1800 or you can visit his practice at 202 East Expressway 83, Suite E in Mission, Texas 78572.
