McALLEN, Texas – Every year, more than 800,000 people in the United States suffer a heart attack, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an event that occurs approximately every 40 seconds.
A heart attack, also known as a myocardial infarction (MI), occurs when blood flow to a portion of the heart muscle is suddenly blocked. Without a steady supply of oxygen-rich blood, heart muscle begins to die, making immediate medical attention critical to limiting damage and improving survival.

The facility is one of only 350 hospitals nationwide to earn the prestigious distinction.
The Platinum Performance Achievement Award recognizes hospitals that consistently deliver a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and achieve sustained adherence to evidence-based treatment guidelines established by the ACC and American Heart Association.
The honor reflects STHS Heart’s ongoing dedication to improving patient outcomes through timely, high-quality cardiovascular care.

To receive the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, STHS Heart has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025) and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures.
Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.
