South Texas Health System (STHS) Edinburg has been named to the 2026 Forbes list of America’s Top Hospitals. The facility is one of only 253 of the more than 5,400 eligible hospitals nationwide to earn a 5-star rating, including only 13 in Texas.

Introduced in 2026, the Forbes Top Hospitals list assists consumers in identifying general U.S. acute care hospitals that consistently deliver outstanding quality and value. The rating system uses independently validated measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Provider Data Catalog, assessing hospitals on patient outcomes, best practices, value and patient experience.

“We are honored to be recognized as a 2026 Top Hospitals by Forbes,” said Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer, STHS Edinburg & STHS Children’s. “This distinction reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire care team who strive daily to provide exceptional, patient-centered care. Being named alongside the hospitals nationwide to earn this recognition underscores our commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and the wellbeing of the communities we proudly serve.”

A key component of the methodology is its strong emphasis on clinical patient outcomes, including mortality, survival, infection, and readmission rates. These outcomes are further adjusted for social drivers of health to support comparison of hospital quality despite differences between any given hospital’s location and patients.

This recognition follows a series of recent accolades for STHS Edinburg, including a Best Regional Hospital designation by U.S. News & World Report for four consecutive years.
