Described as a “a bright façade punctuating the sky above Edinburg,” South Texas Health System Edinburg officially appears on Soliant’s Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. (2025).

STHS Edinburg, which opened its new five-story, $105 million patient tower three years ago to meet the rising healthcare needs of the Rio Grande Valley, finished in second place with 1,009,985 votes following a five-week voting period in the contest organized by the national healthcare staffing firm.

One of only two facilities earning more than one million votes, less than 60,000 votes separated STHS Edinburg from No. 1 finisher Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma. Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was a distant third with 108,151 votes.

“It anchors community healing in a region where bold design meets clinical excellence,” reads the description of STHS Edinburg on the list.

“Beyond more than doubling the size of the facility to offer expanded and enhanced healthcare services for the community, the design of STHS Edinburg’s new patient tower emphasizes patient comfort and positive patient experiences through its warm and inviting healing spaces,” says Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer, STHS Edinburg & STHS Children’s. “Over the years, STHS Edinburg has built a strong reputation for delivering quality, compassionate care and earned national recognition, including a Best Regional Hospital honor by U.S. News & World Report for four consecutive years. This most beautiful distinction serves as a testament that stellar healthcare and a striking healing environment are possible.”

It’s the first time STHS Edinburg has appeared on the list of the top 20 most beautiful hospitals across the country in the contest’s 13-year history.

Since its launch in 2009, the “Most Beautiful Hospitals” contest continues to shine a light on the role that physical space, intentional design, and human connection play in the healing process. From state-of-the-art technology to tranquil gardens and welcoming artwork, these hospitals demonstrate that beauty and care go hand in hand.

In all, more than 200 outstanding hospitals have been recognized by Soliant since the contest’s inception.

This year, the company donated $5,000 to the foundation of the top vote-getting hospital.

“Beauty in a hospital is more than what meets the eye—it’s the compassion of its staff, the peace it provides to patients, and the strength it brings to its community,” said David Alexander, CEO of Soliant Health. “This year’s winners exemplify all of that and more.”
