EDINBURG, Texas – When a child is hospitalized, having loved ones nearby can provide comfort, strength and hope during an incredibly challenging time.
For families who must travel for specialized care, however, remaining close to their child can be both emotionally and financially difficult.
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) helps bridge that gap by offering a “home away from home” near pediatric hospitals, including South Texas Health System (STHS) Children’s.
Through low-cost or complimentary accommodations, meals and supportive services, RMHC enables families to stay together during a child’s medical journey, alleviating stress and allowing parents to focus on their child’s healing and well-being.
Each year, RMHC programs help more than two million families remain close to their hospitalized children, providing comfort and support while alleviating the emotional and financial challenges of medical care for families nationwide, including those throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
To help support families across South Texas—including those with children receiving care at STHS Children’s—the hospital recently donated $4,770 to RMHC South Texas, representing the proceeds from this year’s Eddie’s Safari Run.
The donation will help advance RMHC South Texas’ mission of providing families with essential resources, comfort and support while their child receives medical care.
“We deeply value our partnership with STHS Children’s and are honored to be the beneficiary of this year’s Eddie’s Safari Run,” said Michelle Horine, Chief Executive Officer, RMHC South Texas. “Every dollar raised through the hospital’s 2K and 5K helps us provide comfort, hope and critical support to families navigating some of life’s most difficult moments. These funds will make a meaningful difference for the families we serve throughout South Texas, ensuring they can remain close to their hospitalized child when it matters most.”
Nearly 300 community members participated in the 2K and 5K races, helping raise nearly $5,000 to support families with hospitalized children. The event not only benefited a worthy cause but also encouraged participants of all ages to embrace healthy lifestyles and active living.
Through initiatives like Eddie’s Safari Run and ongoing partnerships with organizations such as RMHC South Texas, STHS Children’s remains committed to building a healthier, more compassionate future for children and families throughout South Texas.
