McALLEN, Texas – The McAllen Public Library (MPL) is making room for one of life’s most important moments. Beginning September 1, 2026, mothers visiting MPL will have access to the Serenity Suite, a private, comfortable setting where they can nurse or pump while continuing to enjoy theprograms, services and resources offered.
Located at 4001 N. 23rd St., the Serenity Suite reflects MPL’s commitment to creating welcoming spaces that support families at every stage of life.

“Being a community-oriented city means providing spaces and resources that reflect the needs of the people we serve,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos. “The Serenity Suite is another way we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers and families.”
MPL is also partnering with Blooming with Grace Lactation Services to offer a free monthly Breastfeeding Support Group led by Barbara Z. Ceres, registered nurse and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. The group will provide expectant and breastfeeding mothers with professional guidance on preparing to breastfeed, pumping, returning to work, self-care and other common challenges. Partners, parents, caregivers and other support persons are welcome.
“Access to the right space and information can provide valuable support” said City Manager Isaac J. Tawil. “By bringing both to our main library, we are helping mothers feel more confident as they navigate caring for their babies.”
“We want families to feel at home when they walk through our doors,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “We always look for ways to make their experiences more comfortable, inclusive and meaningful.”
Together, the Serenity Suite and Breastfeeding Support Group reflect MPL’s commitment to listening to our visitors and providing welcoming spaces, resources and opportunities that help everyone connect and thrive.
