Dr. Nathaniel R. De La Cruz, a dedicated physician and board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians, has made it his mission to provide accessible and comprehensive healthcare for those under 64. With deep roots in the Rio Grande Valley, his journey into the medical field was fueled by family influence and a profound passion for science. His innovative approach to healthcare is exemplified in his practice, Delta Crucis Direct Medical Care, which operates on a subscription-based model designed to simplify and enhance patient care.

Born in McAllen, Texas, and raised in Alamo, Texas, Dr. De La Cruz was encouraged by his brother from a young age to pursue a medical career. This early guidance, combined with his fascination with understanding the human body, set the foundation for his future in healthcare.

He then completed his residency training in family medicine at the same institution, which equipped him with the skills to treat a wide range of patients.

Early Career

Dr. De La Cruz began his medical career practicing privately in Mission, Texas. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he took on traveling work to meet the heightened demand for medical care.

In 2023, Dr. De La Cruz founded his practice, Delta Crucis Direct Medical Care, which operates on a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model. This model eliminates traditional insurance in favor of a subscription-based system, aiming to make healthcare more direct and affordable.

Direct Primary Care Model

Dr. De La Cruz’s practice utilizes a membership-based system where patients pay a low monthly fee that covers all consultations. This model simplifies healthcare delivery, reduces costs, and emulates traditional doctor-patient interactions with transparent pricing.

Focus and Services

Dr. De La Cruz’s practice is specifically tailored to patients 64 and under along with any other individuals of any age who are not eligible for Medicare, including families visiting from other countries. This allows him to provide medical services without the restrictions associated with Medicare eligibility.

Dr. De La Cruz is also certified to provide special services for the Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals for commercial drivers. He is also approved as a designated civil surgeon by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to perform Immigration medical exams for individuals applying for an adjustment of status.

Dr. De La Cruz focuses on early diagnosis and treatment of chronic conditions, particularly diabetes and hypertension, emphasizing the importance of managing these conditions to improve long-term health outcomes.

Dr. De La Cruz actively engages in networking and outreach through the McAllen Chamber of Commerceand Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other community events. He is particularly focused on providing an affordable healthcare alternative for employees of small businesses that cannot offer insurance options.

Patient-Friendly Practice Model

Dr. De La Cruz’s practice is characterized by transparent and flexible pricing, which is highly competitive and affordable. Adults aged 55 pay $55 a month, while those aged 55 to 64 pay $75 monthly. He also has discounts for children when there is also an adult membership on the same plan. Non-member visits are also offered for those who cannot afford a monthly membership, ensuring that financial constraints do not bar individuals from receiving necessary medical care.

Accessibility

Dr. De La Cruz offers direct phone consultations for subscribed members for urgent needs after hours and on the weekends, providing his patients with peace of mind while they are enjoying their off time or while traveling.

Continuity of Care

Emphasizing the importance of follow-up visits for patient health, Dr. De La Cruz ensures that his care is focused on patient well-being rather than financial gain.

Dr. De La Cruz’s clinic following the Direct Primary Care model revolutionizes traditional healthcare delivery. By prioritizing accessibility, affordability, and comprehensive care, his practice stands out as a community-oriented healthcare facility. His dedication to early diagnosis, chronic condition management, and patient education fosters a supportive and effective healthcare environment, significantly impacting the well-being of his patients.
