McAllen, TX – Summer is a time for outdoor fun, family gatherings, and vacations. But for many patients, the need for lifesaving blood does not take a break. It only grows. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Medical professionals call the stretch between Memorial Day and Labor Day “Trauma Season.” As outdoor activities increase, so do traumatic injuries, creating a steady demand for blood. Yet fewer donors are available during summer vacations and busy schedules, making your donation more vital than ever.

Patients need donors of all blood types to meet diverse medical needs. Type O blood is especially vital since it can be given to most patients. Platelets are in high demand too. Platelets, which help many cancer patients, must be used within just a week of donation, making a steady supply essential.

June is also Men’s Health Month, a perfect reminder that giving blood regularly benefits not just patients but donors themselves. Each donation includes a complimentary health screening checking pulse, blood pressure, and cholesterol, helping donors keep track of their wellness over time. Donors can easily review this information anytime in their secure online account. Details: vitalant.org/wellness
