On July 8, 2021, DHR Health celebrated the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of their DHR Health Neurotherapy Institute.
DHR Health officials were excited to offer this specialized service to residents of the Rio Grande Valley. The DHR Health Neurotherapy Institute provides compassionate care to those affected by stroke, brain injury, concussion, Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS), spinal cord injury, limb loss, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, vestibular and balance disorders, speech and swallowing deficits, and many other conditions.
Maritza Padilla, the Vice President for rehabilitation services, welcomed the attendees and said, “DHR Health is committed to serving our community through compassion and excellence.” She continued, “We strive to improve the wellbeing of those we serve.”
She also pointed out that their goal is to continue serving the community through every patient encounter and deliver world-class treatment. “Today, you’ll see that this is another commitment to the excellence that we strive to provide for Valley residents.”
McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos was also one of the guests and said, “DHR has always been a great partner of the communities it serves. Today is about DHR and this 18,000 sq. ft. facility where they now provide professional services. We wish you all the best. However, I know you’re going to do well.”
Dr. Saroja Viswamitra also addressed the guests. She’s been the medical director for the DHR Health inpatient rehabilitation facility since it first opened in 2005.
She presented a video of a former patient that has done well after the retreatments received at DHR Health Neurotherapy Institute. Joe Cantu said that every morning when he woke up, he was barely able to walk and felt a tingling on his fingers. He also noted that DHR Health Neurotherapy Institute has all the right tools to help patients get stronger.
Nathan Saffels, PT, DPT, OCS is Executive Director of the DHR Health Orthopedic and Sports Therapy Institute. Saffels said that DHR Health now offers eight specialized outpatient service locations, including for orthopedic and sports therapy institutes on the second floor of the Orthopedic Institute in Edinburg. Also, a state-of-the-art Aquatic Therapy Institute in south McAllen, providing both land-based and aquatic therapy services, cardiac rehabilitation located at the advanced care center on DHR Health’s main campus, pelvic health therapy integrated at the DHR Health Urology Institute, and the new DHR Health Neurotherapy Institute.
“As we continue to grow and expand services throughout the Rio Grande Valley, our goal has been to ensure convenient access to the highest quality of rehabilitation services available with our new projects in Starr and Cameron counties. “He said, “We’re going to be opening two new facilities next month to continue the path with all of these developments. We’re excited to now be able to announce that for the residents in our communities, there is no longer a need for anyone to seek specialized rehabilitation services outside of the Rio Grande Valley.”
