EDINBURG, Texas – Serving as the only kidney transplant center in the Rio Grande Valley, providing comprehensive care for patients that is close to home, the DHR Health Transplant Institute is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Sridhar Allam, a transplant nephrologist to its team. Board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology, Dr. Allam will also serve as Medical Director for the Transplant Institute.

Dr. Allam brings a wealth of expertise in the area of transplant nephrology as he works with kidney patients. His role as a physician involves evaluating prospective kidney transplant candidates, optimizing their health before transplantation, and managing their care post-transplant to ensure successful long-term kidney function.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Allam to the Rio Grande Valley. His extensive experience and patient-centered approach will elevate our ability to deliver unparalleled transplant services to our region,” said Marissa Castaneda, Senior Executive Vice-President at DHR Health.

His training continued with an internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, and fellowships in general and transplant nephrology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Before joining DHR Health, he served as the Medical Director for Medical City Fort Worth’s Transplant Institute, where under his leadership, the institute ranked among the nation’s best for significantly shorter kidney transplant wait times and superior post-transplant outcomes, as reported by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.

Dr. Allam has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on improving kidney transplant access and outcomes. Additionally, he holds faculty appointments as an Associate Professor of Medicine at both Texas Christian University’s Burnett School of Medicine and University of Houston’s Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine, actively mentoring the next generation of physicians.

The DHR Health Transplant Institute is the only transplant center South of San Antonio that has received approval from the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) in both its kidney transplant and kidney living donor programs. It is also certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As the only transplant center serving the Rio Grande Valley, it plays a critical role in providing life-saving care close to home.

Dr. Allam is now accepting new patients at his office in the DHR Health Medical Tower, located at 1100 E. Dove Avenue, 2nd floor, McAllen. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (956) 362-5433. The institute accepts various health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
