This places DHR Health in the top 1% of hospitals nationwide and makes it the only facility in the Rio Grande Valley with this distinction. The decision to pursue this voluntary certification reflects the ICU Interprofessional Team’s commitment to community health. Over the past three years, the team has worked diligently to meet the rigorous standards required for this prestigious recognition. EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health announced today that its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has earned The Joint Commission’s Disease Specific Certification in Respiratory Failure. This certification is considered the “gold standard of approval” in the healthcare industry, reinforcing DHR Health’s commitment to providing the highest quality of medical care to patients of the Rio Grande Valley. With this certification, DHR Health joins the elite 1% of hospitals nationwide to have this certification and the only facility in the Rio Grande Valley to have this distinction.  

The decision to pursue this rigorous certification was entirely voluntary, driven by the ICU Interprofessional Team’s dedication to the health and well-being of the community they serve. The Interprofessional Team, which is comprised of DHR Health team members from various medical disciplines, worked tirelessly over the past three years to meet and exceed the demanding standards required for this prestigious recognition. 

“We are proud to be amongst the 1% in the nation to have this certification,” said Dr. Juan Marcos Chavez Paz, DHR Health ICU Medical Director. “This certification highlights DHR Health’s commitment to using a team-based approach, evidence-based medicine and standardized protocols to treat a full spectrum of respiratory conditions, from the simplest to the most complex which achieves improved patient outcomes,” added Dr. Chavez.

According to Marissa Castaneda, Senior Executive Vice President at DHR Health, this achievement is more than just a certificate, it is the gold standard in healthcare quality, improved patient outcomes and clinical safety.
