EDINBURG, Texas – The Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) will hold a press conference on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, located at 118 Paseo Del Prado, Edinburg, TX 78539,  to announce DHR Health as the Presenting Sponsor of the 30th Annual VAMOS Golf Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen, Texas. This is the organization’s largest fundraiser and one of the most anticipated charitable sporting events in the region.

The announcement marks a significant milestone as VAMOS celebrates 30 years of service to first-generation, low-income students in the Rio Grande Valley. DHR Health’s $50,000 contribution as Presenting Sponsor supports VAMOS’s goal of raising $1 million in scholarship funds during its milestone 30th year anniversary. These funds will directly support four-year renewable scholarships for students from Hidalgo, Cameron, and Starr Counties.

“DHR Health’s continued commitment to education and student success exemplifies the impact that strong community partnerships can have on the future of our region,” said Richard Cantu, President of the VAMOS Board of Directors. “Their generous support helps open doors of opportunity for students determined to earn a bachelor’s degree and build a better future. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we are deeply grateful to DHR Health who understands that investing in education is one of the most powerful ways to change lives and strengthen our community.”

The press conference will highlight the long-standing partnership between VAMOS and DHR Health and will include a check presentation. Platinum Sponsors of the VAMOS Golf Tournament will also be in attendance and will participate in check presentations recognizing their support.

In 2025, with the support of community sponsors and volunteers, VAMOS awarded four-year renewable scholarships to 63 students to attend the university of their choice. The 2026 fundraising goal will allow the organization to expand its reach and serve even more students across the region.

“At DHR Health, we believe that investing in education is an investment in the long-term success of our community,” said Marissa Castaneda, S

Senior Executive Vice President of DHR Health. “Partnering with VAMOS during the 30th anniversary year is especially meaningful because it is a reminder that when healthcare, education, and community come together, we can make a difference for our community.”

About DHR Health:

DHR Health was founded in 1997 by a visionary group of local physicians and business leaders to address the healthcare challenges and disparities faced by the people of the Rio Grande Valley, a region in deep South Texas that has been historically underserved lacking access to healthcare resources found in major metropolitan areas.

Today, DHR Health stands as one of the largest physician-owned hospital systems in the United States. The health system has expanded access to world-class, comprehensive care through six inpatient facilities and more than 75 outpatient clinics. Serving a diverse community of over 1.5 million residents, DHR Health is powered by a medical staff of over 680 physicians, 250 advanced practice providers, and 1,600 nurses among its 6,400 employees, offering access to more than 70 medical specialties and subspecialties throughout the region.

Headquartered in Edinburg, Texas, DHR Health is committed to serving Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy counties. Recent expansions include a new hospital in Brownsville and the upcoming behavioral health hospital in Pharr, Texas, built in partnership with the City of Pharr, and the State of Texas. DHR Health is dedicated to advancing clinical research and expanding graduate medical education to train the next generation of physicians in the Rio Grande Valley. With the region’s largest medical residency program and the only fellowship programs in South Texas, DHR Health continues to invest in graduate medical education and recently partnered with the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine to provide undergraduate medical education training opportunities for future physicians.

Distinguished by innovation and excellence, DHR Health became the first Level I Trauma Center in the region and continues to invest in advanced medical technologies, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), robotic surgery platforms such as the Da Vinci 5 and ROSA systems, and the ION robotic-assisted bronchoscopy system. The health system proudly operates South Texas’s only freestanding and certified women’s hospital, recognized as a Level IV maternal care center for delivering the highest standard of care and has collaborated with Driscoll Children’s Hospital to provide pediatric care for those children. DHR Health has established and continues to expand access to kidney transplant services in the Rio Grande Valley.

DHR Health continues to create a world-class health system to advance medicine and increase access for the communities we serve by empowering caregivers to heal through compassion, knowledge, innovation, integrated care and excellence.
