There’s no denying that the holiday season is a special time of year. It’s a period of joy, celebration and togetherness that’s marked by traditions like holiday decorating, gift-giving and spending quality time with loved ones.

Among the jolliest of celebrations in the Rio Grande Valley is the South Texas Health System (STHS) Children’s Christmas Posada, an annual event teeming with holiday cheer, including live performances by local elementary, middle and high school students from schools across the region, as well as an abundance of holiday-themed games and family-friendly arts & crafts activities like ornament and holiday card making.

With tree-mendous fun for all, STHS Children’s annual posada serves as a perfect kick-off to the highly anticipated Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah celebrations for families across the Valley.

In addition to the live entertainment and arts & crafts activities, attendees can enjoy a cup of delicious hot cocoa, holiday-inspired treats and specially themed displays by STHS’ facilities and local community businesses and organizations.

With the Children’s Posada growing in popularity each year, STHS anticipates this year’s posada to be the biggest and merriest biggest yet with more than 1,500 guests expected to partake in the good tidings of comfort and joy.

“Fostering a sense of belonging, strengthening social bonds and promoting unity, community connectedness is especially important during the holidays for boosting mental and emotional well-being, reducing feelings of loneliness and providing support during stressful times,” says Tom Castañeda, System Director of Marketing & Public Relations, STHS. “STHS Children’s is thrilled to help bring the community together for this special celebration as we kick off the holiday season. From writing letters to Santa to taking a keepsake photo with Jolly Old St.Nicholas himself, it’s the perfect event to begin the holiday celebrations with family and loved ones.”

Attendees are encouraged to throw on their comfiest holiday-themed fleece and flannel pajamas to enjoy the evening of festivities.
