At the 2025 DHR Health Fashion Show & Gala Honoring Heroic Patients, held on October 15 at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, Dr. Ali Kilic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Hand Surgeon at DHR Health, was recognized for his commitment to patient-centered reconstructive care and his role in empowering women to reclaim their confidence after breast cancer treatment. The event, themed “A Celebration of Strength, Courage, and Empowerment,” celebrated breast cancer survivors who have undergone reconstruction and honored the physicians who help them heal.

As a key member of DHR Health’s Plastic and Reconstructive Institute and Breast Center of Excellence, Dr. Kilic has worked alongside Dr. Mauricio De La Garza and Dr. Paul A. Berry to provide advanced reconstructive options for women throughout the Rio Grande Valley. During his remarks, he spoke about the vital link between physical restoration and emotional recovery for patients undergoing mastectomy. “Reconstruction is not just about rebuilding what was lost,” Dr. Kilic explained. “It’s about helping patients regain a sense of wholeness, confidence, and control over their lives.”

Dr. Kilic emphasized that breast reconstruction is a deeply personal decision, and his approach focuses on empowering patients through education and choice. “Every woman’s journey is unique,” he said. “Our responsibility as surgeons is to listen, to understand her goals, and to provide the best possible options for her circumstances. Whether it involves implants, natural tissue reconstruction, or a combination of techniques, the goal is always to restore comfort, confidence, and balance.”

The Master of Ceremonies praised Dr. Kilic for his expertise and dedication, describing him as “a physician who combines precision with compassion.” The MC added that his contributions to the Breast Center of Excellence have strengthened DHR Health’s leadership in reconstructive surgery. “Dr. Kilic and his colleagues are part of a team that gives women back their confidence and quality of life,” the MC said. “Their work reflects DHR Health’s mission to bring world-class care close to home for patients in the Rio Grande Valley.”

Several survivors who participated in the fashion show also shared heartfelt gratitude for Dr. Kilic’s role in their recovery. Maria Lopez, one of the featured models, described her journey after being diagnosed with stage IIB invasive ductal carcinoma in 2021. “After completing chemotherapy and radiation, I started seeing Dr. Ali Kilic for my reconstructive surgeries,” she said. “I want to thank every single doctor and nurse who has been with me throughout this journey. I couldn’t have done it without them and my children.”

Dr. Kilic’s work extends beyond surgery — he is an advocate for awareness and accessibility in breast reconstruction. He supports DHR Health’s ongoing efforts to educate women about their post-mastectomy options and ensure that reconstruction is available to all who wish to pursue it. His message to patients is one of encouragement and partnership. “You are not alone in this process,” he often reminds them. “Your medical team is here to walk with you through every step, from diagnosis to recovery and beyond.”

His colleagues and patients describe him as a surgeon who brings both skill and empathy to every case, ensuring that each woman he treats feels seen, supported, and respected. Through his work, Dr. Ali Kilic exemplifies DHR Health’s commitment to innovation, compassion, and excellence in patient care — helping breast cancer survivors not only heal but thrive.
