The following is a statement by Texas Medical Association (TMA) President Jayesh “Jay” Shah, MD, regarding the July 4 weekend flooding emergency in the Texas Hill Country region.  

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the devastating loss of life in the Texas Hill Country flooding. Sadly, many lives have been lost, and children are still missing. This is a tragedy that touches us all.

“To the grieving families, to the first responders risking their lives, and to the physicians and health care teams providing care and comfort amid the heartbreak – we stand with you.

“In this as in all circumstances affecting Texans’ lives, the Texas Medical Association will continue to advocate for the well-being, safety, and resilience of our communities in any way we can.”

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 59,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
