DHR Health Audiologist Honored as “Healthcare Champion”

DHR Health Audiologist, Sandy Magallan, Au.D, CCC-A was recently honored as the first “Healthcare Champion” by Easterseals of the Rio Grande Valley, Help Me Grow Network. She was recognized for her commitment and dedication to helping families of hearing impaired children, and her unwavering commitment to audiological health services for the community. Magallan, works as an audiologist at DHR Health’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Institute and is committed to addressing the health disparities faced by those with disabilities.

Easterseals of the RGV, is a non-profit organization which focuses on early intervention services for children with various disabilities with a main focus on children ages birth to age three. In 2020, Easterseals of the RGV was awarded the Help Me Grow Network. The network comprised of trusted community partners, such as Magallan, that link families in need to resources in the community to help children get a good start in life. The program has received national recognition and status.

“I have always been passionate about helping children,” said Magallan. “It is important to help families get the resources they need for their children without obstacles.”

Several representatives from the Help Me Grow Network were in attendance at the award ceremony all there to cheer Magallan on. 

“Dr. Magallan really champions the healthcare sector. She is passionate about helping all patients, especially our very young patient population, where diagnosis and intervention at a young age are so crucial,” said Patricia Rosenlund, executive director of Easterseals of the RGV.

Magallan earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2018. In her role at DHR Health, Magallan works closely with Ear, Nose and Throat physicians (otolaryngologists) to provide comprehensive care for patients with hearing and balance disorders. Her responsibilities include conducting thorough hearing evaluations, assessing cochlear implant candidacy, programming cochlear implants, performing limited balance assessments, and soon, offering hearing aid services. Most of her services are available to newborns and patients of all ages.
