Patient Artwork on Display through May 23rd  

Exhibits at Vantage Bank and Clark Knapp Honda are open to the public

McALLEN, Texas – The Periwinkle Foundation’s Making A Mark® exhibit—presented in partnership with Texas Children’s Hematology and Cancer Center—features original artwork created by patients at the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen. The exhibit will be on display at two locations through May 23.

More than 60 pieces of artwork and writings by patients and their siblings will be showcased at Vantage Bank and Clark Knapp Honda for the next month. The public is invited to view the exhibition during regular business hours at both locations: 

● Vantage Bank: 1801 S. 2nd St., McAllen

“We are thrilled that Making A Mark® is back at the Vannie E. Cook Clinic in McAllen,” said Erin Locke, Community Programs Director for The Periwinkle Foundation and leader for Periwinkle Arts in Medicine. “Creating art offers powerful benefits—mentally and physically—and can be an important part of the healing journey.

I’m excited for Rio Grande Valley residents to experience the heartfelt beauty these young patients have expressed through their art,” continues Locke. “Additionally, patients can see their art on display in their community.” 

“We are so excited to have the artwork of our patients and their siblings featured and displayed. Our partnership with The Periwinkle Foundation brings so much joy to everyone at the clinic. We hope the community is able to visit Vantage Bank and Clark Knapp Honda and see the beautiful pieces,” said Victoria Guerra, Director of Philanthropy and Public Relations for The Vannie Cook Clinic.

Since 1997, the Periwinkle Arts In Medicine program at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center in Houston has provided children and their families with meaningful opportunities for self-expression, empowerment, and emotional healing. Making A Mark® enables young artists to transcend the challenges of treatment and connect with others around the world through Periwinkle’s Postcards From the Road program, inviting viewers to share messages of support and inspiration with the artists.
