EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health, one of the largest physician-owned hospitals in the United States and proudly serving the Rio Grande Valley since 1997, is delighted to welcome Dr. Hector Saucedo Crespo to the DHR Health Transplant Institute. Dr. Crespo specializes in kidney transplants and works closely with a dedicated transplant team to provide life-saving care. He carefully reviews patients’ and donors’ medical histories, conducts thorough compatibility research, and guides patients through every step of their transplant journey. Dr. Crespo is committed to ensuring patients fully understand the process and remains by their side before and after surgery, giving them the best chance at a healthy future.

Dr. Crespo earned his medical degree from la Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi in Mexico. He then completed his general surgery internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in abdominal transplantation at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. To further specialize in transplantation, he pursued a fellowship in pediatric and multi-visceral transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
Throughout his career, Dr. Crespo has received several honors and awards, including membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes doctors for their compassionate patient care. Beyond surgery, Dr. Crespo is passionate about education. He has mentored and trained more than 200 medical students, residents, and fellows, helping shape the future of transplant surgery. He is also dedicated to advancing the field through research and publishing medical articles on transplantation, ensuring that patients receive the best, most up-to-date care.
Dr. Crespo is dedicated to guiding patients through every step of the transplant process, making sure they feel informed, supported, and cared for.

The DHR Health Transplant Institute is the only transplant center South of San Antonio that has received approval from the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) in both its kidney transplant and kidney living donor programs. It is also certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As the only transplant center in the Rio Grande Valley, it plays a critical role in providing life-saving care close to home.
Dr. Crespo is now accepting new patients at the DHR Health Transplant Institute in McAllen, located at 1100 E. Dove Avenue, Suite 200-201. To schedule an appointment, call (956) 362-8030. Patients seeking a consultation with a transplant surgeon should first consult with their primary care provider or nephrologist for a referral. Once referred, patients will undergo an initial evaluation to determine their eligibility for a kidney transplant and learn more about the process.
