In recent years, the region has seen a troubling rise in accidents involving All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs), with DHR Health recording a 183% increase in such incidents since 2018. Dr. Jeffrey Skubic, the Medical Director at DHR Health Level 1 Trauma Center, emphasized the critical need for proactive measures, stating, “We can’t simply stand by and allow these accidents to occur.”

The ATV Injury Prevention Course empowers ATV riders with vital skills and knowledge to prevent accidents. The course, endorsed by the standards of the ATV Safety Institute, includes a two-hour eCourse covering protective gear usage, environmental concerns, and riding strategies. Following the eCourse, participants take part in hands-on training, practicing basic riding skills in a controlled environment under the guidance of licensed instructors and local law enforcement officers.

This event emphasizes DHR Health’s and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to enhancing public safety through education. The ultimate goal is to reduce ATV-related accidents and ensure that ATV enthusiasts can enjoy rides without risking their lives.
