In a significant step towards enhancing pediatric healthcare, Driscoll, a renowned nonprofit pediatric healthcare system, marked the inauguration of its new Quick Care clinic in Edinburg, Texas, with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, November 30, 2023.

This clinic represents Driscoll’s second Quick Care facility in the Valley and is strategically situated next to the soon-to-open Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley. This hospital, set to launch in 2024, will be the first freestanding children’s hospital in the Rio Grande Valley, a region in dire need of pediatric healthcare services.

Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley President Matt Wolthoff, who will oversee the hospital’s operations, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming community support at the event. He emphasized the importance of this new facility, stating, “Our mission is to provide more care for more kids.” The Quick Care clinic aims to bridge the gap in pediatric care, particularly in emergency situations, by offering an alternative to traditional emergency care. This approach not only ensures efficient and appropriate care for children but also alleviates the burden on emergency departments.

The new clinic has already seen a significant number of patients, exceeding 300 visits in less than a month. This success shows the community’s need for such services and the clinic’s ability to meet these needs effectively. Dr. Roel Cantu, the medical director for both Quick Care locations, was also acknowledged for his dedication and the quality of care provided in these clinics.

Wolthoff pointed out that the upcoming Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley will be a state-of-the-art facility with 119 pediatric beds, staffed by over 700 medical professionals. It will feature a 63-bed neonatal ICU within the women’s center, showcasing a commitment to providing comprehensive and specialized care for children. The hospital’s construction is a direct response to the critical shortage of pediatric healthcare services in the Valley, and it represents a monumental step forward in addressing this issue.

In addition to the hospital, Driscoll’s Quick Care clinics, including the new facility in Edinburg, play a vital role in the healthcare landscape of South Texas. They offer prompt treatments and are staffed by local medical professionals, ensuring that children receive the care they need in a timely manner. The Edinburg clinic, located at 2821 Michelangelo Dr, Suite 101, extends its services until 11 p.m., catering to the community’s needs outside of regular business hours.
