Today, we bring to you Dr. Jose Natividad Perez Enriquez; he is a family medicine physician. Dr. Perez Enriquez is one who is dedicated to a profession that he loves and gives him the opportunity to help people to change for the better.
He told Mega Doctor News that family physicians provide the most care – managing nearly one-fourth of all primary care visits. Given the scope of family medicine, this comes as no surprise. Family medicine is a three-dimensional specialty incorporating: knowledge, skill, and process.
“Family physicians integrate the biological, clinical, and behavioral sciences to provide continuing and comprehensive health care,” he said. Adding that, “Unlike pediatricians, who only provide care for children, and internists, who only provide care for adults, family medicine encompasses all ages, sexes, each organ system, and every disease entity.”
It is understood in the field of medicine that primary care is the backbone of the health care system. “What drives me to family medicine is the desire and eagerness to treat my patients as a whole, not just a kidney that is failing or a heart that is having trouble.”
Dr. Perez Enriquez is a board certified medical doctor that attended the Universidad of Tamaulipas Medicine Faculty in Tampico, Tamaulipas from 1997 to 2005. He did his family medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Dr. Perez Enriquez came to the United States with a scholarship to attend Baylor University and while attending school he worked as a medical assistant for a surgeon and a pediatrician in Houston, Texas. He considers Dr. Jesus Diaz as his mentor and acknowledges that Dr. Diaz is a great doctor. “This job was a voluntary job, there was no monetary compensation, my parents were supporting me at the time” he said.
At the same time, Dr. Perez Enriquez dedicated much of his time to medical school. “I also worked as a medical interpreter at a place called Language Assistance Telemedicine.” He also worked as a medical assistant with a holistic doctor. There he saw the application of alternative medicine with a seasoned professional in this field. During this time he assisted Dr. Gilbert Manso and learned to appreciate this field of medicine. Dr. Manso also gradated from UTMB in Galveston, however he went to Mainland China to learn and specialize in alternative medicine, which he now practices.
“What impacted me the most about his work was not the alternative treatments he gave to his patients, but his approach and the attention he gave his patients,” he said.
Working for Dr. Manso made a great impact to him and in November of this year Dr. Perez Enriquez will be taking the Integrative Holistic Medicine exam. “In Galveston, they have a 200-hour online curriculum associated with the University of Arizona,” he said.
Dr. Pérez Enriquez was born to Dolores Enriquez, a housewife, and to Noel Perez, his dad; a businessman in Panuco, Veracruz in Mexico, a city about 45 kilometers south of the Port of Tampico.
He practices in Brownsville because his wife is closer to her parents. “I want that environment for my children, I like the family closeness,” he said. “I want for them to be close to the grandpa and grandmas and be able to share the love.” As far as his family, they are just a three-hour drive away, he said.
Dr. Perez Enriquez has been in the Valley since July 1, 2013 and his mom has already visited three times.
Mega Doctor News is proud to have met Dr. Perez Enriquez. He is young and energetic, loves new ideas to treat his patients but above all he loves his profession as a medical doctor.
