Local couple, Yahaira Serna and Balde Hinojosa, welcomed their baby girl, Annette, and got engaged at the hospital on the same day.

Yahaira Serna, of Edinburg, was not expecting to go into labor until after June 7, however, her baby had other plans. On June 5, at 11:26 a.m. Dr. Rodriguez de Lima helped welcome healthy baby girl Annette Hinojosa who was 18.5 inches and weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces.  However, that was not all.  Balde Hinojosa, Yahaira’s boyfriend, had a surprise as well.

Hinojosa talked to the nurses at Rio Grande Regional Hospital and asked if they could help him coordinate a proposal.  Balde wanted his baby girl to wear a special onesie that read, “Mommy, will you marry my daddy?”  Living up to their commitment to care like family, the nurses in the Women’s Unit were excited to help.  Soon thereafter, the nurses took baby Annette to mom, where Balde got down on one knee, took out a ring, and asked Yahaira, “Will you marry me?”  Yahaira was completely surprised and excitedly replied, “yes!”  “I was not expecting this at all, I am completely shocked,” said Serna.  “I am excited to start a new life as a family.”

After four years of dating, Balde thought today was the perfect day to propose to Yahaira. “Today is the day I became a father, it’s a new beginning,” said Hinojosa.  “What a better day to make our commitment to start our new journey.”
