U.S. News & World Report, a leading authority on hospital rankings, has named South Texas Health System Edinburg a Best Regional Hospital in Texas for 2026-2027, marking the fifth consecutive year the facility has earned recognition for excellence in delivering complex care across multiple specialties.
U.S. News & World Report recognizes that access to high-quality healthcare close to home is critical, particularly for patients who require ongoing treatment and may face challenges traveling long distances for care. Through its annual Best Regional Hospitals rankings, the publication highlights top-performing hospitals across the nation, demonstrating that patients can receive exceptional care without leaving their communities.
STHS Edinburg, ranked No. 30 (tie) in Texas, is the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to earn a spot on the 2026-2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Regional Hospitals list. The rankings recognize hospitals that deliver exceptional care and serve as a trusted resource for patients and physicians seeking high-quality treatment.
Following a transformative expansion that doubled its size with the addition of a $104 million, five-story patient tower in 2022, STHS Edinburg continues to distinguish itself among the nation’s leading hospitals. The facility is part of the elite 16% of nearly 4,500 hospitals evaluated by U.S. News & World Report to receive a numerical ranking.

To earn a place among this year’s Best Regional Hospitals, a facility typically had to demonstrate high performance across at least seven procedures and conditions evaluated by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings consider a range of measures, including patient survival rates, patient experience, quality of nursing care and how effectively hospitals help patients return home following treatment.
To assess performance, the publication analyzed data from sources including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the American Hospital Association, professional medical organizations and physician specialists, providing patients with a trusted resource for identifying hospitals that deliver exceptional care.
