EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health is delighted to announce that orthopaedic surgeon, Kip Owen, MD, FAAOS has been re-elected to the Council of Delegates for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) for a second consecutive, three-year term.
The AOSSM is a professional organization dedicated to providing knowledge, skills, and continuing education to its member practitioners. In his role on this national committee, Dr. Owen will spearhead grassroots outreach initiatives, foster communication with other physicians at a local level, and provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas.
Additionally, this prestigious position recognizes Dr. Owen’s exceptional contributions to the field of medicine and his unwavering commitment to providing top-notch orthopaedic care to the South Texas region.

Contributing to the growth of orthopaedic sports medicine while representing the Rio Grande Valley at the national level is both an honor and responsibility that I value greatly,” said Dr. Kip Owen, DHR Health orthopaedic surgeon.
Dr. Owen brings with him a wealth of experience, having been a physician for over 35 years and with DHR Health since 2001. Specializing in both orthopaedic and non-operative treatments for athletic injuries, he has gained a reputation as a leader in the field. He holds dual Board Certifications in Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. Owen’s distinguished career began at the U.S. Naval Academy where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree before serving eight years as a fleet fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy. Inspired to pursue a career in medicine, he graduated with honors from Texas A&M College of Medicine in 1988. He subsequently completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, and advanced his expertise though a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Knee Reconstruction in Eugene, Oregon.
Apart from his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Owen remains committed to medical education, serving as Program Director of DHR Health’s Orthopaedic Residency program, helping to train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
