EDINBURG, Texas – Ronald McDonald House Charities South Texas celebrated the reopening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room at South Texas Health System Children’s in Edinburg, Texas on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room allows families to rest and regroup in a comforting environment while only being steps away from their hospitalized child. Located near the patient rooms on the hospital’s third floor, the Family Room provides families a place to recharge, grab a bit to eat, shower, or sleep so they can stay strong for their children.
“Together with South Texas Health System Children’s, we can help Rio Grande Valley families stay close to each other through the biggest challenge of their lives,” said Michelle Horine, Chief Executive Officer at Ronald McDonald House Charities South Texas. “The Ronald McDonald Family Room supports the needs of our families by providing a place for them to step away from the hospital atmosphere into a calming recharge area.”
The space includes a living room, kitchen/dining area, private shower, napping/quiet rooms, washer and dryer, TV room, coffee station, charging station, and complimentary snacks and drinks. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
“South Texas Health System Children’s is committed to providing quality, compassionate care to our patients and their families, and that goes beyond the medical. Prior to the pandemic, the Ronald McDonald Family Room had been an easily accessible place of comfort for family members with children in our care,” said Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer, South Texas Health System Children’s and STHS Edinburg. “Reopening the Family Room has been a top priority, and we’re grateful to Ronald McDonald House Charities South Texas for their commitment to Rio Grande Valley families with children being hospitalized.”
This is the second Ronald McDonald Family Room in the Rio Grande Valley supporting families with hospitalized children.
