Mega Doctor News –

By Roberto Hugo Gonzalez,

Few physicians have the privilege to say that they have in a way seen it all in what is related to their field. In this case Mega Doctor News interviewed a leading doctor in orthopedic surgery. He is Dr. Ruben D. Pechero, a board certified doctor that has been in practice in the Rio Grande Valley for the last 47 years.

He selected the City of McAllen over El Paso, Texas as the place to live and to set up his medical practice.

Dr. Pechero is a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1958 from the University of Buenos Aires. He did his residency in Orthopedics at the University of Kansas at Wichita. The American Board of Orthopedics has certified Dr. Pechero since 1970.

His orthopedic practice was established in McAllen in 1968 and the areas of expertise include the care of the bones of the upper and lower extremities and the spine, as well as their associated muscles, ligaments, and nerves.

Dr. Pechero has earned his place because of his vast experience and performance efficacy. He focuses on these areas: Degenerative Spine, Spinal Deformity, Trauma, and Tumor / Infection.

He came to McAllen with his family on July 1, 1968 precisely at a time when his services were very badly needed; he became only the third doctor specializing in orthopedic surgery for the entire region.

“When I graduated from the University of Kansas, Hidalgo County had only one orthopedic surgeon, and Cameron County had another.” He said that the area had a big necessity for orthopedic surgeons. “I was looking for a place to practice medicine and where I would be able to use my Spanish and my English; I am bilingual,” he said.

According to him, when he came to the Rio Grande Valley he noticed that it was a little different than the mid-west. He said, “But my primary interest was the Spanish speaking demographic composition of the area, so this is my place to be. I can say ‘I am from the Valley’ because I’ve spent most of my life in the Valley, more than any other place in the world.

Concerning technology, Dr. Pechero has seen it all. “Everything has changed from the time I graduated in 1968 in Kansas. I have seen advances in technology from a simple robot to very sophisticated robots.”

His challenges today are the fact that the rules have changed for the medical field. But, he has more important concerns these are his patients. He said, “I always strive to provide my patients with excellent medical attention. We have the best facilities available, and we have all the technology. I provide good patient treatment that is current with the time that we live in.”
